The Tate

535 West 23rd Street  |  Chelsea

This statuesque Chelsea rental apartment building is named after London's Tate museum collective. Fittingly, the building's Chelsea location is close to many well-known art galleries. You'll also be free to enjoy the Chelsea Piers, the huge recreational complex nearby along the Hudson River.

The Tate has 313 apartments in two towers -- one 11 stories and one 14 stories clustered about a private courtyard. The building boasts one of the city's finest lobbies. Designer David Rockwell combined a variety of materials to make a very stylish modern statement. The concierge desk, for example, is in front of a screen of neatly arranged twigs, and a grove of bamboo trees and stone pathways leads to windowed elevator lobbies overlooking the landscaped courtyard. A large red-metal marquee flares upward over the revolving door entrance. The building has unique sidewalk landscaping and blue-tinted glass over the entrance.

The building's health and fitness center features individual private television screens. The Tate also has a landscaped sundeck with a skylit entertainment room, business center, and a bicycle room. Maid, valet and dry cleaning services are available, and doormen and concierge are on duty 24 hours a day. New residents have more than 50 floorplans to choose from, all including washers and dryers, granite kitchens with glass door cabinetry and stainless steel appliances, stone baths, walk-in closets, and multiple media outlets in every room. Some apartments even have terraces. The Tate: truly a piece of art worthy of its name!
