The Beginning of the End: Airbnb

Airbnb
There has been much controversy lately over the room-sharing startup Airbnb which has recently awakened the argument over innovation vs. regulation. Airbnb has been presented itself as one of the most visible players in the “sharing economy” - ahead of services such as Vrbo and Flipkey. These short-term rentals are allegedly depleting the scarce housing market.

Five Ways Manhattan Apartments Are Attracting Dog-Lovers

Corgi

It’s no secret that your average New York dog owner is of a different breed than their counterparts. The Census Bureau reports that although the rate of pet ownership in the city is half the nation's 60-percent average, New Yorkers spend twice as much on their pets. The tenants were one step away from torches and pitchforks when the owners finally reversed the new rules. Building owners are realizing that turning away dog lovers can be a financially risky decision and have begun to adjust their policies, going above and beyond simply saying "dogs allowed" to attract this significant demographic. Here are a few ways that Manhattan Real Estate Owners and neighborhood officials are trying to cater to dog owners:

More Rentals Rising West of Midtown West

Far West Side ManhattanThe words Manhattan and real estate development have long been synonymous, so it should come as no surprise when The Real Deal recently announced that the Gotham Organization would be taking on one of the largest new construction projects in Manhattan yet. The Gotham Organization project is expected to cost over $520 million and consists of four separate buildings spanning an entire Manhattan city block at 550 West 45th Street between 10th and 11th Avenue. Out of the 1,238 expected units for rent, close to 600 of them will be constructed with low-, moderate- and middle-income New Yorkers in mind.
