The landmarked One Wall Street is primed for a commercial-to-residential conversion, courtesy of Robert A.M. Stern Architects. The cherished Financial District building was originally designed by renowned architect Ralph Walker, and RAMSA may soon add a modest penthouse annex in addition to interior updates.
Developer Macklowe Properties intends to introduce a combination of 524 high-end condos and luxury rental apartments to the Financial District’s housing market. Amenities should include a pool, garage, and bike storage. Of course, if starchitect Robert A.M. Stern’s previous projects are any indication, each apartment will be beautifully designed to reflect classic Manhattan elegance. So until One Wall Street is finished, here are three buildings designed by architect Robert A.M. Stern with luxury apartments available for rent.
The Abington House
Just steps from the High Line, The Abington House is one of the most unique buildings in West Chelsea. Its facade trends towards spartan, drawing subtle, industrial inspiration from the High Line, while retaining a certain sophistication found in all of Mr. Stern’s architecture.
The Harrison
Much like the ultra-luxe building 15 CPW, The Harrison is a return to Robert A.M. Stern’s bread and butter. Located in the Upper West Side, it’s a well-executed modern take on pre-war Manhattan luxury. From the brick and sandstone facade, to the polished marble lobby, it leans into an aesthetic of subtle sophistication. To top it all off, it boasts an address just a few blocks from the American Museum of Natural History and Central Park.
The Westminster
The Westminster’s Art Deco–inspired design meshes well with the pre-war architecture of east Chelsea. In addition to its luxurious rental apartments, it also showcases a great amenities package, which includes a fitness center, media lounge, business meeting room, and a fully-furnished rooftop terrace, all topped off by 24-hour doorman and valet service.
